The First Tee of Silicon Valley is a unique youth development program providing high quality educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices seamlessly through the game of golf.
We are proud of the impact our program is having in the lives of so many young people. Our empowering curricula produces successfully functioning youth who connect with their community and report a >90% improvement rating in character building, golf skills, and service. 80% of class participants achieve all A’s and B’s in school, 100% of our certifying class students graduate high school and 100% of our top- level Ace participants attend college.
The First Tee of Silicon Valley classes include fun and educational games that are activity-based with continuous learning where our coaches intentionally bridge what participants learn in class to life experiences. Our youth demonstrate clear signs that they are acquiring the life skills we teach. We have a 56% retention rate – ranking number one among the 140 chapters.
We serve all youth with 98% racial diversity and 45% girls by offering affordable access and financial assistance. Our program is a safe haven that provides structure, direction and intentional mentorship addressing the epidemic of high school dropout rates, aggressive antisocial behaviors and childhood obesity. We fill the opportunity gap and provide inclusion for all youth experiencing challenges associated with poverty and ethnicity in a region with the nation’s second most diverse area. Silicon Valley/Santa Clara County is one of the wealthiest regions in the world but statistical averages mask troubling inequities. The high cost of living in Santa Clara County creates enormous challenges to make every child safe, healthy, successful in learning and successful in life. It is critical that we sustain our operation to serve an area that needs our positive youth development program to serve a population of 400,000 youth.
It’s more than a game – it’s a shot at upward mobility for the under-served, at-risk youth in our community. Watch our video to learn more about our youth development program that is making a difference.
